Notes & Reviews:
Aulis Sallinen (1935) is one of the most well-known Finnish opera composers. At home with large scale works, his Kullervo is considered by many his greatest achievement in the field of opera. This re-issue, recorded in 1991 prior to its 1992 world-premiere performance, includes a truly stellar cast of Finnish opera singers with Jorma Hynninen singing the title role of Kullervo. Other singers in prominent roles include Eeva-Liisa Saarinen, Matti Salminen and Jorma Silvasti.
American Record Guide, November/December 2014
The performance does the opera justice, and it's a particular pleasure to encounter some veteran Finnish singers: Jorma Hynninen, Matti Salminen, Jorma Silvasti.
