Notes & Reviews:

The Herbert von Karajan Collection comprises thirteen box sets containing official remasterings of the finest recordings the Austrian conductor made for EMI from 1946-84, now jewels of the Warner Classics catalog. He was closely associated with EMI for the majority of his recording career (specifically from 1946-60 and then again from 1969-84). At the heart of this 7CD box are symphonies by Tchaikovsky and Dvorák - essential Karajan repertoire. The presence in this set of additional orchestral works by composers including Debussy, Ravel, Bizet, Berlioz, Franck, and still more, played by the Berlin Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris, also exhibit von Karajan's interpretative flair for non-Germanic repertoire, especially true in relation to the French works.
