Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
The performers leave much to be desired. Carlos Damas's playing is generally stylish. She doesn't make mistakes. The concerto also needs an orchestra with a larger string section.

Armando José Fernandes (1906-83) was a celebrated Portuguese composer. His musical language, based on extended tonality, finds its influence in Ravel, Debussy and occasional hints of expressionism. There is, however, a southern vitality in the basically romantic heart of this fascinating composer, whose works are here premiered. Violinist Carlos Damas' maintains a worldwide career, and his recordings have won universal praise. The Strad praised his Kreisler disc as one of the best on the market.
