Notes & Reviews:

Transcendentalist is the highly anticipated follow-up to Serbian-American pianist Ivan Ilic's award-winning album 22 Chopin Studies by Leopold Godowsky and his first for Heresy Records. This recording of meditative music traces the links between the piano works of Alexander Scriabin and the American avant-garde, particularly John Cage and Morton Feldman. Underlying the music on the album is the philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson and the Transcendentalists whose ideas influenced these composers.

American Record Guide, September/October 2015
Mr Ilic's release is an engaging program including early and late Scriabin, Cage's Dream and In a Landscape, a 2013 work - Scott Wollschleger's Music Without Metaphor, and Feldman's Palais de Mari. The coupling of Scriabin with the later composers is unusual and persuasive, and Ilic's approach to the music is appropriately sonorous and otherworldly. The Feldman is especially good: he shapes the various gestures carefully, never hurries with them, and revels in the vast but never aimless landscape of the music.
