Notes & Reviews:

"You have to take your hat off to someone who can plan a recital CD with the imaginative insight of the investigative musicologist, and then execute it with such musicianly sensitivity." So declared International Piano magazine on Czech pianist Lada Valeova's AVIE debut, Intimate Studies (AVR 2142), featuring music by fellow countrymen Jana? cek, Martin°u, Suk, and Pavel Haas. Now, Lada returns with another innovative concept that explores the Slavic musical soul through the dumka, the wistful musical genre to which numerous composers turned to conjure their own aural imagery.

Evening Standard
Extraordinary stuff, imaginatively played.

Gramophone Magazine, November 2014
A varied and sensitively planned programme...Valeová commands a full, rounded tone but passes on facile virtuosity in favour of something mellower.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
Lada Valesova has been living in London for the past 18 years, where she is a professor at the Guildhall School of Music. She was born in the Czech Republic, moved to Moscow and began music studies at 6 years of age. At 12 she moved back to Czechoslovakia and eventually got most of her training from the Prague Music Academy. Her bi-lingual upbringing (Czech and Russian) was complemented by English lessons beginning at age 8. She earned an exchange grant from Prague to study in London for three years and ended up staying. She is also at home as a soloist or collaborative pianist and works extensively with vocalists and coaching opera. She seems to be the complete musician, and the high quality of the current disc is a result of all her experiences and abilities. Add to that Avie's superior production values and excellent sound and you have an unbeatable combination.
