Notes & Reviews:

This album features some of finest works for solo Viola da Gamba of the 17th-18th centuries, including Georg Philipp Telemann's Suite in D. San Francisco-based John Dornenburg teaches music history and literature at Cal State, Sacremento and is also a member of the music faculty at Stanford University. As a viola da gamba soloist, he has performed widely in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and across the U.S. His discography includes more than two-dozen recordings.

American Record Guide, July/August 2015
The music is all from the late 1600s and early 1700s. It makes a nicely varied program. That is the only piece in a major key so it stands out - or it would if it were played in a more lighthearted manner. Dornenburg is a serious musician who seldom smiles. He plays with polish and vigor but vigor but tends to be thoughtful all the time.
