Notes & Reviews:

Heitor Villa-Lobos's mother dismissed the guitar as "an instrument played by scoundrels", but his earliest surviving work, Dime perché, comes from a time when he was composing almost exclusively on this instrument. By completing his unfinished Valsa Concerto No. 2, Andrea Bissoli brings to life the subject of a notorious anecdote between Segovia and Miguel Llobet, and the Sexteto místico echoes Brazilian street band sounds, anticipating Villa-Lobos's "new form" of the mystical Choros. The intimate serenade Canção do Amor is from his soundtrack for the film Green Mansions.

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
Dime Perche and Valsa Concerto 2 are both early works, charming. The Sexteto Mistico, for guitar, flute, saxophone, oboe, harp, and celeste, is rarely heard. It is well-integrated chamber music. Introducao aos Choros is a postlude to the composer's series of 14 Choros settings, composed the year after the last was written, and using all the instruments found in each of the individual works. The longest work here is Choros No. 6. It's well played, and the orchestration is more skillful. The encore is a lovely song from his score for the 1958 film Green Mansions. Only a portion of his music was actually used in the film. The orchestration includes guitar. The song is lovely - and beautifully delivered by Gabriella Pace.
