American Record Guide, November/December 2014
The group plays Brahms with passion and panache. The passion is felt in their quick tempos, wide dynamic contrasts, and sharp articulation; the panache gives the performances an unbuttoned, spontaneous feel. In the big dramatic movements like the outer ones of the quintet or the opening to the C-minor Quartet, the playing can be electrifying and exciting. The sound is very clear.
Follows on from the Quartet's hugely successful debut album of Schumann's complete quartets and piano quintet; this is their debut recording on Orchid Classics and comes hot on the heels of Ilya Gringolts' success with his Orchid Classics CD of Paganini Caprices ORC100039 - a Gramophone magazine Editor's Choice
