Notes & Reviews:

The Belgian harpist, composer and pedagogue Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912) is considered by many to be the grandfather of pedal harp playing. Among his many important pupils were the prominent 20th century harpists Lily Laskine and Marcel Tournier. Harp & Co. label founder and harpist Rachel Talitman, who studied French music with Hasselman pupil Pierre Jamet, presents this recital of eleven works by the great Belgian master.

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912) was a Belgian harpist-composer-violinist. He moved to Paris, where he became the greatest teacher of the modern pedal-harp, teaching at the Paris Conservatoire and playing in the Paris orchestras. His compositions are mostly for solo harp except 'Confidence' and 'Priere' for cello and harp. They are quite beautiful. Other than that, this collection is new to my ears and is played with style and beauty of tone, recorded with clarity and warmth. The music is lyrical and lovely.
