Notes & Reviews:

'A little of the music that we are'-- Nora Gubisch and Alain Altinoglu After opening up frontiers with Ravel's Greek and Hebrew songs in their last disc together, Nora Gubisch and Alain Altinoglu now give us a chance to hear an even more cosmopolitan world, guided by their mixed origins, their roots: "Our personal geography is pretty varied: I am of Armenian descent, while Nora possesses both Spanish and German ancestry." This warm recording includes a new recording of Berio's Folk Songs, for which Nora Gubisch's research on diction and the traditional sources (especially in Azerbaidjan) has been crucial.

Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2014
Gubisch manages to suggest the presence of Berberian in a remarkable way in the Berio, though she certainly does not try to imitate her; the accompaniment is as sensitive as could be imagined...I'd say that it was in the Brahms songs that Gubisch feels most at home.

Sunday Times, 6th July 2014
A lovely folk-song set of mainly Spanish composers...Gubisch's singing often lacks the artlessness demanded, though; the best performances are reserved for intimate readings of Brahms's two Op 91 settings and his celebrated Wiegenlied.

The Guardian, 10th July 2014
Gubisch's lived-in, streetwise mezzo sounds good in Berio and Falla, but is graceless in Obradors and too self-consciously raunchy for Granados...Altinoglu is a terrific pianist and a no-nonsense conductor for the Berio.

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
This interesting and varied program is a tribute to Gubisch and Altinoglu's family histories, explained in some detail in the notes. Gubisch's voice is dark and rich, and the pair is wonderful together. Altinoglu's playing is sometimes aggressive and dark, sometimes playful and light, as in the Obradors songs. The Granados 'De Aquel Majo Amante' is Gubisch at her best, expressive and lyrical from top to bottom. The Brahms are also lovely.
