Notes & Reviews:

Young violinist Giovanni Guzzo is rapidly rising as one of the leading performers of his generation making his Champs Hill Records debut with an album of three well-loved sonatas. Normandy-born pianist and composer Anne Lovett has been praised for her crystalline and beautiful tonal clarity and huge sonic power. Cesar Franck's Violin Sonata is, these days, in the repertoire of many great violinists, thanks to the Belgian virtuoso Eugène Ysaÿe who was given it as a wedding present and premiered it in 1886.

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
The violin sonatas of FaurT, Franck, and Poulenc have an ideal interpreter in Giovanni Guzzo. The Venezuelan-born violinist plays with a pure, lustrous sound, which he produces with minimal vibrato. This lends itself nicely to the refined, elegant, and diaphanous music of these composers. Guzzo also has technique to burn, which comes in handy when playing as demanding a work as the Franck. There are many high points here. Guzzo and pianist Anne Lovett perform FaurT's Sonata in A with sweep and sensitivity. The melting lyricism they bring to the expansive, darkly passionate slow movement is especially memorable. They play the opening of Poulenc's sonata with brilliance and fire, and they play the lovely Intermezzo (II), surely the most satisfyingly Brahmsian piece ever written by a Frenchman, with warmth and heartfelt emotion. I'm always thrilled to get my hands on a new recording of Franck's magnificent Violin Sonata. It's a great virtuoso vehicle for any violinist - Heifetz played it at his final recital - and it rarely fails to make a big impression. Guzzo and Lovett are ideally matched in this music, which allows the violinist to indulge in his luxuriant, singing tone. Lovett accompanies with passionate exuberance and soulfulness.
