Notes & Reviews:

In her debut recording, pianist Jin Hwa Lee performs Rachmaninov's monumental Sonata No. 1 and Variations on a Theme of Corelli. Ms. Lee's New York debut concerts received critical acclaim: "outstanding performance, surprisingly powerful sonority with superlative clarity... profound, fresh, and illuminating performance." Dr. Lee is a winner of top prizes in numerous national competitions in Korea, and received multiple fellowships and awards during her studies at Peabody Conservatory and the University of Michigan.

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
Korean-born Jin Hwa Lee recently earned her doctorate from the University of Michigan and performed Sonata 1 in a Detroit recital earlier this year. She, like most performers these days, can be found on-line performing a wide array of pieces, including the first movement of the sonata. This is her first CD. One of the first measures I make of any performance of this Faustinspired work is the last page of II with all of the trills ornamenting one of Rachmaninoff's most beautiful moments. Lee projects a wonderful melody, balanced perfectly with the trills. The second big work on her program is the Corelli Variations (also in D minor). Here her musicianship finds many details and brings them out in a fresh approach to a standard repertoire work. That was a big plus here; I felt enlightened after listening.
