Notes & Reviews:

Pierre de la Rue (d. 1518) is one of the great Franco-Flemish Renaissance composers. His works were known throughout Europe during his lifetime; the reformer Martin Luther held him in high regard. The Missa pro defunctis, one of the earliest polyphonic settings of the requiem, became the best-known work in this genre during the Renaissance. The missing Proprium parts of the Missa de Beata Virgine have been completed using Gregorian chant from a manuscript of St. Thomas's Church in Leipzig.
