Notes & Reviews:

From Warner Classics' Cologne Collection comes Léon Jessels' Das Schwarzwaldmädel, first performed in 1917. It's the tale of Bärbele, the Black Forest girl, ignored by the villagers because of where she comes from. Only the intervention of two disguised young men from the city can forge a peaceful coexistence between tradition and the modern age. The score combines catchy tunes with elegant Viennese waltzes and singspiel elements. This 1976 recording is conducted by Willy Mattes.
