Notes & Reviews:

Discovered by eminent French pianist Yvonne Lefébure, pianist Olivier Chauzu (b. 1963) later studied with both Gabriel Tacchino and Jean-Claude Pennetier. Performing worldwide as both a soloist chamber player, Mr. Chauzu is noted for the extent and eclecticism of his repertoire, which includes piano works from all periods of musical history. His Calliope discography includes, among other recordings, these award-winning performances of Beethoven and Albéniz. "... a master of colors." - Le Monde

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
With the short Scherzo providing a relief in contrast to the intensity of the opening, the long Adagio (the core of the sonata) gives us ample time to explore the landscape and reflect on the meaning of life. All goes well in the sometimes cryptic final movement that concludes this marvelously clean, beautifully executed and recorded performance. It was a good idea to include the preceding sonata, which shows the composer's growth as he reached for new territories to explore. The fascinating notes take the form of an interview between the pianist and musicologist Roseline Kassap-Riefenstahl.
