Notes & Reviews:

Following the great success of Gerhard Weinberger's new and most comprehensive recording ever of Bach's organ works (German Record Critics Prize, 2009), Mr. Weinberger and CPO now turn to a new edition featuring the organ compositions of Max Reger in performances on selected magnificent organs surviving from Reger's period. The composer's overall oeuvre for the organ enabled this instrument to gain new prestige. Vol. 1 contains works offering eloquent testimony to Reger's veneration of Bach.

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
This highly-recommended record is the first volume of what promises to be an exciting contribution to the complete recordings of Reger's monumental output for the organ. In this two-record set, large-scale works represented are the Fantasy and Fugue on BACH, Suite in E minor, two sonatas, and excerpts from the 12 Pieces, Op. 80. Gerhard Weinberger captures Reger's frenetic musical energy, while preserving his overall grandeur and majesty. Reger's expressive late romantic contrasts are well suited to the two historic organs: the 1908 Wilhelm Sauer organ of Leipzig's St Thomas Church and the 1914 Furtwangler and Hammer organ of St Mary's Church of Salzwedel. Weinberger performs all with technical polish and musical authority.
