Notes & Reviews:

The gifted Austrian composer Hans Rott (1858-84) has become a figure of note in our day due mainly to his only completed and very fine youthful Symphony in E (1880), the centerpiece of the present recording. The highlight of this disc however, comes in the form of the first recording of his eleven-song cycle for baritone, 'Balde Ruhest du Auch!' adapted for orchestra by the composer Enjott Schneider. Baritone Michael Volle sings; Hansjörg Albrecht leads the Munich Symphony.

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
His E-major Symphony, finished in 1880, is the work of a young man bursting with ideas. Balde Ruhest du Auch (Soon you too will rest) is a song cycle using Rott's vocal settings of poems such as Goethe's 'Wanderer's Night Song' and Zusner's 'Little Violet'. They're sung over an accompaniment scored by Enjott Schneider. This incisive performance is a welcome and legitimate alternative. If you love this symphony - if you love youthful inspiration at the very brink of genius - this is one of the best recordings.
