Notes & Reviews:

The Canticles are the crowning glory of the Anglican liturgy and have afforded the greatest opportunity for musical development within the Anglican rite. Thousands of people daily hear the world-famous St. Paul's Cathedral Choir and organist Simon Johnson under their director of music Andrew Carwood singing these settings. Here these forces present a satisfying collection including nineteenth-century masterpieces by Stanford and Charles Wood, and from the twentieth century Walton's Coronation Te Deum, written for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and Tippett's monumental work for St. John's College Cambridge.

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
The performances here are technically brilliant. So is the recording itself. The Hyperion engineers demonstrate that it is possible to record the choir and organ in such a way that the textures remain clear. It is worth noting that Roth's Jubilate is punctuated with silences deliberately intended to exploit that. Andrew Carwood was a choral scholar at St John's College, Cambridge and a lay clerk at Christ Church, Oxford and Westminster Cathedral before he was appointed director of music at the Brompton Oratory in London. He made his reputation chiefly as director of The Cardinall's Musick in a series of celebrated concerts and recordings. He was appointed director of music at St Paul's Cathedral in 2007. He is the first non-organist to hold that position since the 12th Century.
