Notes & Reviews:

Welsh-born composer Hilary Tann lives in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York where she is the John Howard Payne Professor of Music at Union College, Schenectady. She holds degrees in composition from the University of Wales at Cardiff and Princeton University. Praised for its lyricism and formal balance, her music is influenced by her love of Wales and a strong identification with the natural world. Pianists Eunmi Ko and Albert Kim, violinist Sini Bartanen and cellist Andrew Barnhart are the featured performers on this new Centaur release of eight works by Ms. Tann.

American Record Guide, September/October 2015
There is a sound a piano makes when it realizes it has ended up in a scene where the camera is quickly traveling over the ground. It's a tonal, earthy, robust sound that calls for a violin to join it in creating the setting. Horror movies and thrillers will typically stay with moody harmonics and quick lines while quirky comedies will use syncopated rhythms, catchy little figures, or emotional hooks. Hilary Tann's `On Ear and Ear.', is a surprising mixture of both. Violin lines are based on tremolos while the piano plods through ambivalent, block chords. Moments of arrival after rhythmic motion are undercut by the familiar method of travel. `Doppelganger' works diligently to present its first half as boisterous and grandiose. Nothing Forgotten's beginning is even more boisterous. II returns to the mood and tone of `On Ear and Ear "while III includes what may be the best melodic passages on the release.
