Notes & Reviews:

Igor Shukow is one of the most important pianists of our time. His previously published recordings by telos music, including the legendary recording of all Scriabin Sonatas, have set a benchmark. Thus, for example, wrote Matthias Kornemann about the recording of the Brahms Sonata (Vol. II): ... the miracle of this CD is the slow movement, which Shukow settles in a brittle, transparent sphere of sound, as if to lift it out of the early work since it incorporates in truth something old and mature. In this fantastical spiritual sphere he takes the liberty of remarkable reinterpretations .... The edition of these live recordings from the late 80s show once again the extraordinary artistry of Igor Shukow.

The second disc has Bach's Piano Concerto in D, Mozart's Concerto 23 in A, and the first Shostakovich concerto. Zhukov plays in all of them and conducts from the piano.
