Notes & Reviews:
From its first printing five years after his death in 1881 until the present, "corrective action" has been unnecessarily taken on Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition". The present recording is based on the original manuscript, now in the National Library of Russia, St Petersburg. All the unfamiliar-sounding notes, harmonies, articulation, dynamic range, tempo and pedal markings are included. Songs and Dances of Death suffered the same fate. The present recording is based on Mussorgsky's original manuscript, also held in the aforementioned library.
