Notes & Reviews:

Double Entendre, an ensemble of double reeds, consists of oboists/English hornists Karisa Antonio, Sarah Davol, Kathryn K. Englehardt, Marsha Heller, Nancy Ranger, Christa Robinson, Elizabeth K. Scott, and Sherry Sylar and bassoonists Susanne Chen, Keith Kriendler, Atsuko Sato, and Dirk Wels. Based in New York City, Double Entendre Music Ensemble is a collective of like-minded musicians devoted to adventurous exploration of the double reed repertoire. This recording is the culmination of a multi-year project to commission, perform and record repertoire for these instruments.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
This release is the product of five years of collaboration, commissioning, and creativity. The program reveals a wide spectrum of stylistic influences. A regal canon for six instruments by Timothy Dwight Edwards sets the tone of the program, like a tuning note for the orchestra. While Edwards may not have intended it to be a "tuning note" of sorts, the performers were creative to use it as a point of calibration for their audience's ears. Overall, I am delighted by these musicians' ability to bring life to such different styles. They seem committed to the promotion of new music and exceptionally qualified for the job. I recommend that all reed players add this to their collection.
