Notes & Reviews:

The Del Sol String Quartet team up with didjeridu virtuoso Stephen Kent to bring to life the Complete String Quartets with Didjeriu by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe. The result is a unique and exciting aural experience, filled with rich organic sonic colors brought to life through the use of the traditional quartet and the indigenous sounds of the didjeridu. "Amongst the amazing artistic collaborations that Del Sol has had in our 22-years of music making, playing Peter Sculthorpe's pieces with Stephen Kent (didjeridu) is both one of the most unusual and fulfilling. The breathtaking power and beauty of Peter's music is enhanced by the juxtaposition of these contrasting wooden instruments and traditions - the ones delicately carved by master craftsmen in Europe and the other naturally hollowed out by termites in Australia. Stephen's artistry envelops us in sonorities that border between the earth and the divine. These sonic waves lift the entire quartet, even changing the role of the cello from harmonic ground to the floor of an airship. We take flight together." - Charlton Lee, Violist This is the first complete set of these works and they were recorded at the Sono Luminus Studios in 24bit 192kHz 7.1 surround sound and are delivered to the listener in this package on Pure Audio Blu-RAY in 5.1, 7.1, and high-resolution stereo, and 2standard resolution CD's . The Blu-ray also includes digital copies via mShuttle.

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
Obviously Mr Sculthorpe was more concerned with blending cultures than separating them. His postmodern musical view will be attractive to younger audiences, whom the Kronos has made a career of wooing. As for the main instrument in question, listeners' reactions will depend entirely on their perspectives, both musical and political. The disc is published in two versions, one standard, the other Blu-ray. The Blu-ray requires different equipment.
