Notes & Reviews:

Composer, educator, school founder and brilliant pianist Samuel Feinberg's (1890-1962) performing interests were truly grandiose, but as a composer and performer Feinberg was close to Scriabin, to his sensation of music. When the author of 'The Poem of Ecstasy' heard young Feinberg play, he positively appreciated his pianistic art. His repertoire included all the piano sonatas and most of the small-scale compositions by Scriabin. The recordings of nineteen mazurkas, Opuses 3 and 25, from Scriabin's early period were realized in the 1950's.

BBC Music Magazine, February 2015
A fluid approach to tempo and a wonderful sense of spontaneity characterises these performances of the early Chopinesque Mazurkas.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
Feinberg (1890- 1962) was a Russian composer, pianist, and educator. His formative musical education came at a time when Scriabin was at his highest recognition and Feinberg was captivated. His compositions are strongly influenced by both the innovative aspects of Scriabin's music and its advanced piano writing. Scriabin praised the young Feinberg's performance of his Sonata 4. He was the second pianist to record Bach's complete Well-Tempered Clavier (1958-59) and was awarded the Stalin prize in 1946. The 10 Mazurkas, Op. 3 (1889) are quite early Scriabin and heavily influenced by Chopin. Yet there are hints in each piece of the unique musical language that was to come. The first set is more lyrical and also the better recorded. The 9 Mazurkas, Op. 25 (1899) mark the end of what could be called Scriabin's first compositional period. Already the musical language is more dramatic and adventurous.
