Notes & Reviews:

Ju-Young Baek, who has been hailed as the "next Goddess of the Violin", has performed one of the two works heard here, Krzysztof Penderecki's Violin Concerto No. 2, under the direction of the composer. Grzegorz Nowak is the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's Principal Associate Conductor and worked closely with Ms. Baek in the recording of this, her debut CD with the RPO. The late Romantic Polish composer Karol Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 1 is the other commanding work on this disc.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
Krzysztof Penderecki called Ju-Young Baek "the next goddess of the violin". A graduate of both Curtis and Juilliard and winner of the bronze medal and four special prizes at the 1998 Indianapolis Violin Competition, she is simply superb on these recordings made 15 years later. And what a partner she has in Grzegorz Nowak, the RPO's associate conductor. He keeps the all-important inner textures transparent and "on wing" - the very opening bars instantly fly you into a world of feathered delicacy and color. Skip toward the end and you will hear a most awesome coda and cadenza - fleet, light, virtuosic, lyrical, the whole show! This performance even has an epic dimension. True, the excellent EMI recording with Thomas Zehetmair and Simon Rattle has more air and clarity to the sound, but this performance took my breath away.
