Notes & Reviews:

International Record Review, December 2014
Reuss is a conductor who leads highly expressive performances that are free of mannerism. The collective tone of the choir, topped and tailed by pure sopranos and warm basses, is extremely attractive...The standard of the singing is wonderfully high throughout this disc, not only because of the technical excellence of these performers but also the sense of the lyrical lines and the expressive nuance brought to individual phrases...

Audiophile Audition, 20th January 2015
Simply marvellous in conception and execution.

BBC Music Magazine, Christmas 2014
The reading as a whole is beautifuly shaped and articulated by conductor Daniel Reuss...[his] vibrato-lite sopranos make a significant mark, soaring rapturously in the idyllic first half of the setting of [Schicksalslied]...All told, this is an excellent collection of choral Brahms by a choir collectively tuned in to the idiom.

Gramophone Magazine, December 2014
Cappella Amsterdam perform these works with immaculate poise and a wonderfully rich breadth of tone, magically captured by this warmly atmospheric recording. Daniel Reuss induces a sumptuous sound from his singers...The choral sound is never anything but immensely beautiful.

The famous German Requiem must not be allowed to overshadow the wide variety of choral music Brahms wrote throughout his career. On this recording, Daniel Reuss and Cappella Amsterdam are our expert guides in a program that takes in sacred a cappella motets by turns austere and resplendent, secular quartets with piano, and songs for six-part unaccompanied chorus. The crowning glory is a dramatic masterpiece for chorus and four-hand piano, the Song of Destiny after Hölderlin.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
I'll say right from the beginning that this is a wonderful recording. The Cappella Amsterdam under Daniel Reuss is a splendid group. The 32 singers (8, 8, 8, 8) sing with minimal vibrato, so pitch is very clear. Most impressive, I found, is their intonation, which in pieces like 'Warum' is remarkably fine; they tune like a fine string quartet. Under Reuss their singing is molded and musical.
