Notes & Reviews:

Inspired by her love of spirituals and traditional carols, Marie-Josee Lord embarks on a mystical journey for her very first Christmas album. Accompanied by the Ensemble Vocal Epiphanie, Lord sings such beloved gospel songs as Amazing Grace and Couldn't Hear Nobody Pray. Accompanied by Jean-Willy Kunz at the organ of the Saint-Jean- Baptiste church, Montreal and by violinist Antoine Bareil, Marie-Josee Lord also sings Christmas season classics including Ave Maria by Bach/Gounod and Minuit, Chretiens! by Adolphe Adam, as well as Bing Crosby's celebrated song White Christmas. Marie-Josee Lord's first disc, the eponymous Marie-Josee Lord (2011 Felix award for best classical vocal recording of the year), as well as her most recent ATMA disc, Yo soy Maria, won over the hearts of the public.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
There are some nice moments in this collection of sacred music, in particular in Mallotte's 'Notre-Pere' (the familiar 'The Lord's Prayer' setting). The Ensemble Vocal Epiphanie sings with crisp energy and terrific blend. Other moments, like the plodding 'He's Got the Whole World In His Hand', drag the energy of the whole program down. I like the gentle opening here. Lord's opening to 'Amazing Grace' is thoughtful and clear; this is the best part of the program. The Ensemble Vocal Epiphanie sings with crisp energy and terrific blend. Other moments, like the plodding 'He's Got the Whole World In His Hand', drag the energy of the whole program down. Kunz's organ playing is capable. Berlin's 'I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas' in French (here, 'Noel Blanc') was a pleasant surprise. The final selection, a Congolese piece with Richard Biyavanga-Kiyedi on the djembT, is terrific; I'd like to hear this group do an entire recording of music like this. Notes, texts, some translations.
