Notes & Reviews:

The 12 Caprices, op. 25 represent one of the most significant works by cellist and composer Carlo Alfredo Piatti (1822 - 1901). The 12 Caprices merge the great virtuosity and flair of the musician with the desire to restore the singing qualities of the Italian opera aria. Aram Khachaturian's Sonata-Fantasia for cello solo dates from 1974; its title and structure reflect a Lisztian influence. Consisting of one movement of great breadth, this piece manifests a notable variety of expressions and timbres, suggested also by the indications of the composer. Two rarely recorded works.
