Notes & Reviews:
Pavarotti has a Gigli-like quality in characterization and this suits him ideally for the role... you should readily be won over by the sheer exuberance, vocal as well as dramatic, that Sutherland brings to the role.
I consider this Pavarotti's best singing on disc ever. He is so involved and his tone is so sweet that one just wants to listen on and on.
Decca is proud to reissue some of its most iconic Pavarotti recordings, including Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and Puccini's Madama Butterfly and Turandot. Now available with libretti on CD and High-Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-ray Disc, sales expectations are high for these deluxe editions. The editions highlight the key partnerships in Pavarotti's early recording career including those with Sutherland, Caballé, Freni, Ghiaurov, Mehta and Karajan (see below for a full list of performers). 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the start of the relationship between Luciano Pavarotti and Decca - a fitting occasion to marvel once again at the sheer quality of the voice of the 20th Century's greatest tenor.
