Notes & Reviews:

Pianist Tamas Vasary (b. 1933, Hungary) made his first recordings for Deutsche Grammophon in 1958, and from that moment on his international career flourished, especially during the decades of the 1960s-70s, when his discography grew by leaps and bounds. It was toward the end of this period that his conducting career then took off, and he has held a number of prominent orchestral posts since the 1980s, experiencing a second round of successes in this field of endeavor. This Pentatone release of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 14 & 26, KV449 & KV537 ("Coronation") finds Mr. Vasary assuming both his professional roles, pianist and conductor, in this case of the Berlin Philharmonic, in what are typically satisfying performances of these works by an esteemed 20th c. pianist, in smartly enhanced SACD sound.

American Record Guide, November/December 2015
Vasary, now in his early 80s, will be fondly remembered by longtime collectors for his contributions to the performing and conducting world. The sound is very clear, and the acoustic has presence without placing us too close to the instruments. Moreover, there is a pleasant chamber-like quality to both orchestra and piano and fortunately enough resonance. Vasary, conducting from the piano, keeps things moving well, and the Berliners perform with character. It will certainly satisfy most listeners, and can be praised for its fine, stylish playing.
