Notes & Reviews:

Born and raised in Canada, baritone Stephen Lancaster delights in engaging with audiences, performing in concert, opera, and recital. He was declared winner & audience favorite in the 2013 Nico Castel Int’l Mastersinger Competition at Weill Recital Hall, NYC. Active in sacred music as a singer, organist and choral conductor, he currently serves as Choir Director and Associate Organist at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church in Elkhart, IN. With Martin Katz, piano, this French art song Centaur release includes commissioned songs by Canadian composer J. Scott Brubacher.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
Centaur does a fine job of presenting fine artists from all around the country who are not well known. Lancaster, Assistant Professional Specialist of Music at the University of Notre Dame, shows good interpretive skill with these songs, coloring his voice to fit the text (e.g. Ravel's song of a swan "who is becoming fat like a goose"), and employing a wide range of expression and dynamics, particularly in Caplet's songs. He's a fine storyteller-singer who sounds like he is having fun with the animal songs. Katz is an estimable collaborator. The performances are good. The sound is very present.
