Notes & Reviews:

Pianist Alexander Kobrin, born in Russia in 1980 and now based in the U.S. is an internationally acclaimed pianist who, among other honors, is a former winner of the Gold Medal Prize in the heralded Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. This Centaur release features Mr. Kobrin’s in an all-Schumann program, opening with one of the composer’s finest of several piano masterpieces that comprise Schumann’s first two dozen or so published works, Carnaval, op. 9, followed by Waldszenen, op. 82, which contains the wondrous Vogel als Prophet, and concludes with the op. 18 Arabesque.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
With impressive credentials as both performer and jurist, the young Mr Kobrin can also boast of many fine recordings. Not that one had any doubts about Russia's continued ability to produce pianists of prodigious technical ability. Schumann's Carnaval, of limited encounter in both performance and recording some 50 years ago, is now part of the mainstream repertory for today's pianists. Few similar problems occur in the Waldszenen. The popular Arabesque are worthy entires in the catalog. The Yamaha Concert Grand is well (if forwardly) captured by the engineers, and the notes are above average.
