Notes & Reviews:
As with scarcely any other work of the 17th century, Monteverdi’s Vespers has found its way into today’s repertoire. Nevertheless, the Vespers still leaves open many questions. The present recording is based on the new edition by Carus, which takes up oft-discussed issues concerning scoring possibilities, performance practice, transpositions and liturgical unity and invites an individual musical approach to the challenge presented by Monteverdi’s Vespers. With the Lautten Compagney Berlin and amarcord two of the best German ensembles have accepted this challenge. Augmented by five guest singers, the ensemble amarcord sings with equal excellence in both choral and solo sections. It is joined by the obbligato instruments listed by Monteverdi, wind instruments, strings, and a basso continuo.Notes & Reviews:
