A Few Notes Between Friends: The Music of Julie Giroux (b.1961) for band / Univ. of North Texas Symphonic Band

Notes & Reviews:

It was in 1985 that Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winning American composer Julie Ann Giroux (b. 1961) began composing, orchestrating and conducting music for television and films, which came to include North and South, Dynasty and The Colbys, as well as the films Karate Kid II, White Men Can’t Jump and Broadcast News. Ms. Giroux is an extremely well-rounded composer, writing works for orchestra (including chorus), chamber and wind ensembles, soloists and brass and woodwind quintets in both serious and commercial formats. She has over seventy published works for concert band.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
The final piece is Bill Conti's end-credits music from The Right Stuff, the movie about the Mercury Seven astronauts. Conti, a mentor of Giroux for 32 years, conducts. This must have been a wonderful experience for these college musicians. Very enjoyable album.
