Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
Saxtlan performs with relentless energy and tight rhythm, treating the listener to an exciting ride through the Mexican countryside. The group delivers technical counterpoint with clarity and tackles all required sound effects with relish. Some listeners may believe that the group's raw style fits the music, giving the scores an appropriately earthy feel; and they do merge their individual sounds into an effective blend and balance. Other listeners may be turned off by too many moments of dubious tone quality and intonation. A more refined approach may work better in the more classical selections and elevate the pieces rooted in the folk realm. Saxtlan makes a muscular statement and presents a new and fascinating chunk of music for the saxophone quartet.
