Look, the guy's a legend, he'll do whatever he damn well pleases. Neil Diamond proved himself so solidly with decades of mega-hits that if, in the later stages of his career, he wants to indulge himself by singing some of his old favorites, no one should presume to be a naysayer. Especially not when he's backed by an 80-piece orchestra under the baton on legendary composer and conductor Elmer Bernstein. With his trademark gruff, emotive vocal style lending a unique edge to whatever he tackles, Diamond provides a new perspective on songs from classic films. In many cases, the songs have taken such a vital place in music history the films they came from have become secondary. Recommended to both Diamond fans and soundtrack buffs.
