Perhaps a little too "gung-ho" for some folks, The Unforgiven set out attempting to forge old west style and myth with Eighties L.A. guitar rock. Potentially good songs were often sabotaged by military-style drumming and embarrassing "gang vocals." But there's a nugget or two of gold shining through from underneath the dust and grit. Both "All Is Quiet On The Western Front" and "Hang 'Em High" hold up well, while "Grace" is an odd re-working of "Amazing Grace". All in all, their name turned out to be oddly prophetic, for only guitarist John Hickman has ever been heard from in any capacity by teaming up with David Lowery to form Cracker. A near miss. ~ James Chrispell
