Notes & Reviews:

Dialoghi a voce sola lets a kaleidoscope of musical dialogues from seventeenth-century Italy arise before our eyes. To be found in it are moralizing dialogues with oneself, dialogues with one's own eyes as plaints of love, laments over one's own fate, or worries about the whereabouts of the beloved. In Barbara Strozzi's Dialoghi a voce sola, which provided the title of this recording, even Hope and Fear communicate with one another. Whatever type of dialogue it might be, it always has to do with the emotional effect on the listener. Soprano Ulrike Hofbauer carries her audience off into the world of the respective dramatic figure, by Peri, Frescobaldi, Carissimi, Strozzi, and others, accompanied by the colorful swing of her ensemble &cetera. With immediate effect, the sought-after singer will be teaching at the Institute for Early Music of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg,

American Record Guide, September/October 2015
In contrast to the Barberini program, the point in Dialoghi A Voce Sola is a solo female singer. There's also a very different approach to the accompanying instruments. Here they are engaged partners, recorded with the same status as the singer, and the soprano and instruments lead each other to high levels. The six instrumental pieces, such as toccatas by Neapolitan composers Trabaci and Mayone, are very well played.

In her notes with the recording, soprano Ulrike Hofbauer writes about the seeming paradox of the "dialogs for solo voice" disc title, the plural of composer Barbara Strozzi's 'Timore E Che Sara: Dialogo A Voce Sola'. For Hofbauer, this repertoire is a cross between soliloquy and dialog, internal conversations with the self and reflections on a character's situation. The program is very well selected to fit this theme. All the performances are very fine, giving flesh and spirit to bring the music and texts vividly to life.
