Oregon: 1000 Kilometers

Album Reviews:

JazzTimes (p.100) - "[D]istinguished by some largely improvised pieces and the sort of witty interplay that enlivens the quartet's concert performances."

Album Notes

The chamber jazz outfit Oregon had been making music for almost 40 years by the time 2007's 1000 KILOMETERS was released. Eschewing jazz conventions as usual, Oregon blends styles with a sense of elegance and adventure on this set, veering from jazz fusion to folk to world music to atmospheric chamber work. Guitarist Ralph Tower wrote most of the compositions on 1000 KILOMETERS, and reedist Paul McCandless has plenty of room to show his improvisatory chops, but the emphasis, as always with Oregon, is on organic group interplay and the remarkable textures and colors that can be achieved with an open-minded approach to boundary-breaking music.
