Notes & Reviews:

BBC Music Magazine, April 2015
Barton Pine's set of Mozart Violin Concerts opens with No. 4: an expertly controlled tutti from Neville Marriner sets the stage for the solo entry, but almost immediately there's a feeling of rushing...Barton Pine's tone is warm, but I could wish for more variety...In all five concertos she plays her own cadenzas, which are well tailored, and don't outstay their welcome.

New York Times
Bravura technique and soulful musicianship.

Washington Post
An exciting, boundary-defying performer ... in the top echelon.

Best-selling American violinist Rachel Barton Pine, whose previous release went straight to #1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Chart, debuts on AVIE with a survey of Mozart's complete Violin Concertos and the Sinfonia Concertante, in which she introduces the extraordinarily talented young violist Matthew Lipman. Her orchestra is none other than the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields conducted by their legendary founder, Sir Neville Marriner.

Gramophone Magazine, March 2015
There is much to enjoy in Barton Pine's sensitive, finely honed performances, especially of Nos. 4 & 5 (plenty of temperament in the latter's 'Turkish' eruption). With a nod to period performance, she articulates crisply and uses vibrato modestly. Marriner, who must have conducted more Mozart than anyone alive, and the ASMF are urbanely attentive in support.

The Telegraph, 18th January 2015
Barton Pine, in league with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the ever-stylish Marriner, reveals that there are subtleties alongside the grace and exuberance that render the music endlessly fascinating and appealing...Barton Pine's tone is pure, unadulterated by any extraneous affectation, and is ideally matched to the music's lucid and chamber-like discourse.

American Record Guide, March/April 2015
These are very pleasing performances of Mozart's five violin concertos and the Sinfonia Concertante. The full recorded sound is one of their principle attractions, and I especially like the very rich, deep sound Barton Pine draws from the bottom two strings of her violin, the "Marie Soldat" Guarnerius del Gesu of 1742. Violist and fellow Chicago native Matthew Lipman, about 21 when these recordings were made, is a worthy partner in the Sinfonia Concertante. He plays a viola made in 1700 by the Venetian maker Matteo Gofriller that is on loan to him from Barton Pine's own foundation. One of the commendable aspects of this set is the cadenzas for the concertos, all of them composed by the violinist. She also supplies some brief, well-conceived lead-ins in the rondo finales.
