Notes & Reviews:
Along with the smaller complete organ oeuvres of a host of North German Baroque composers, Vol. 13 of our complete organ works concentrates above all on the complete organ oeuvre of Michael Praetorius (MPC), an exceptional figure among German musicians during the late Renaissance to early Baroque transition. MPC's few extant organ works confirm his status as one of the great masters of German organ artistry. Friedhelm Flamme uses this program to present a portrait of the Christoph Treutmann organ (1734-37) at St. George's Monastery Church in Grauhof, near Goslar.

It is worth noting that Joseph Kelemen is producing a similar series of recordings of North German organ works and a companion series of South German organ works for Oehms. My review of his recording of works by Hieronymus Praetorius and Jacob Praetorius II (Oehms 691; Mar/Apr 2015) refers to other recordings in both series. I have been consistently impressed with Kelemen's performances, as he combines a scholar's knowledge of the repertory with a persuasive musicality in his interpretations.
