Notes & Reviews:

Up until his sudden death at age 80 in 2014, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos was one of the most prolific conductors of the last half-century, recording and conducting until mere weeks before his passing. He conducted many orchestras across the globe and recorded for several labels over his long and illustrious career. This recording of Debussy's `greatest hits` for orchestra (London Symphony) is superbly performed and brilliantly recorded, given a coveted 3-Star review by the Penguin Guide.

Penguin Guide
Strong in Mediterranean atmosphere, La Mer has an underlying grip [which] concentrates on evocation at the opening and creates a real pianissimo, helped by the wide dynamic range of the recording. Overall there is plenty of excitement, with the LSO virtuosity in the finale matched by the rich-toned ardor of the strings when they rise to the emotional peak of Jeux de vagues. Fetes proceeds spectacularly, glittering in colour. [These are] not conventional readings, but full of impulse and superbly recorded.
