Notes & Reviews:
Shostakovich's famous symphony, written during the Nazi blockade of Leningrad, is performed by the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, a leading orchestra in the musical culture of Bulgaria.
American Record Guide, May/June 2016
The performance is phenomenal, and I marvel at the organ-like sheen Tabakov draws from the orchestra about two minutes before the end of III. His strings are consistently muscular. I praised that in the Eighth (Gega 381, M/J 2015). This is a superb recording of the symphony. Notes are in English and Bulgarian.
