While the Cramps made a number of gloriously unhinged studio albums during their three-decade run as America's greatest purveyors of sensualist psychobilly, the group was at its best on-stage, where vocalist Lux Interior would embrace his most abandoned side, Ivy Rorschach's lead guitar would get even wilder, and drummer Nick Knox would pound his kit with an unrelenting stomp. Coast to Coast preserves highlights from two live Cramps shows recorded for radio broadcast in 1979, one at New York City's Irving Plaza, the other at the Keystone in Palo Alto, California. With early second guitarist Bryan Gregory adding his trademark volleys of noise, Coast to Coast documents this great band in raw and energetic form, high on rock & roll snazz even when the fidelity is a bit on the low side. ~ Mark Deming
