Notes & Reviews:

Along with Alfons Diepenbrock it is above all Johan Wagenaar (1862-1941) who is regarded as one of the founding fathers of the rebirth of Netherlands music culture. His immense musicality enabled him to make progress early in his career; he himself became a sought-after teacher and director at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Additionally, he was one of the leading organists and Bach interpreters of his times. His compositional predilections were nevertheless for the orchestra, and Vol. 2 of his symphonic works again demonstrates his special formal sense and rich melodic invention.

American Record Guide, July/August 2015
All the music is tuneful and likeable. Performances and sound are top-notch. Anthony Hermus's tempos and balances seem just right for this music. Kvetch dept.: CPO once again lists under conductor Hermus's discography Siegmund von Hausegger's Barbarossa. In fact Maestro Hermus tells me he has not only recorded that fine work for CPO, but also Hausegger's Aufklaenge Variations, Wieland der Schmied, and his Three Hymns to the Night.
