Notes & Reviews:

In 1735 Bach produced the second part of his Clavier-Übung (roughly: Current Keyboard Practices), consisting of an elaborate French Overture, BWV 831 and a Concerto in the Italian Style, BWV 971 for solo harpsichord, following after four years the publication of his six Partitas, BWV 825-830, which made up the first part. Both works appear on this latest volume of Musica Omnia's Complete Works for Harpsichord by J. S. Bach along with the Four Duetti from Part III and various other works for harpsichord and the Lautenclavier, a hybrid instrument for which Bach composed several works throughout his career, all included here.

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
As always, Watchorn's performances emphasize musical grandeur and considerable detail: in the first movement of the imposing French Overture, he introduces artful added passages or ornamentation and rubato to clarify the piece's complex tonal architecture. The individual melodic shapes in the slow movement of the Italian Concerto - so often played as a series of improvisatory roulades - all have a particular phrasing so that their role in the compositional design is clear but always expressive. I find his lovely performance of the capriccio as good as Andreas Staier's on Harmonia Mundi (July/Aug 2008).
