Performers Composers

Notes & Reviews:

The rebirth of the chamber sonata on the wave of the Neo-romanticism of the second half of the 19th c. is a striking phenomenon: achieved almost simultaneously on both sides of the Rhine: in Germany and France, countries quarrelling musically for centuries, and - in the political situation after 1870 - becoming virtual enemies. The present recording offers two Late Romantic violin-piano chamber music masterworks, here transcribed for viola: Franck's Sonata in A and Brahms' Sonata No. 1 in G. Violist Elz?bieta Mrozek-Loska and pianist Zbigniew Raubo are the interpreters of both works.
