Ensemble Composers

Notes & Reviews:

This recording pairs works by two composers who were in regular contact at the court of Esterházy. The piano trio occupies a significant place in the output of Joseph Haydn. Some forty years separate his Trio in G minor from the Piano Trio No.2 of Johann Nepomuk Hummel, a remarkable virtuoso whose melodic gift won him the admiration of Mendelssohn. The Trio Chausson is featured on this recording, which brings out both the connections and contrasts between these great composers.
