Notes & Reviews:

Victoria Baroque Players with Kati Debretzeni, violin and direction

Beautiful music of the Baroque, with works by Telemann, Vivaldi and their contemporaries. Performed by The Victoria Baroque Players.

Highlights include Telemann's Concerto in D, TWV53:D, as arranged by Pisendel, in the rarely heard version for natural horn (with soloist Andrew Clark), and Vivaldi's Concerto for Violin and Strings in D Major, RV212, with guest artist, renowned violinist Kati Debretzeni.

The Victoria Baroque Players are known for the diversity of their instruments and musical arrangements: their core group consists of flute, bassoon, horn, two violins, viola, cello and harpsichord. "They bridge the gap of popular versus artistic, virtuosic versus poetic, and earthy versus otherworldly."

Since the year 2000 Kati Debretzeni has led the English Baroque Soloists under the direction of Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and her playing can be heard on their recordings of the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage. In 2008 she was appointed as one of the leaders the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, with whom she has often appeared as soloist, directing and leading the orchestra in performances in the UK and Europe.
