Notes & Reviews:

This Centaur new release marks Vol. 3 of pianist Jeni Slotchiver's "Busoni the Visionary" series. Ms. Slotchiver has toured throughout North America as lecturer and recitalist. She has presented all-Busoni programs at universities, festivals and concert series. Her 1997 Merkin Hall recital, the first all-Busoni program in NYC in over thirty years, won the "heartfelt appreciation" of the Busoni Foundation. The series debut CD was released in 1999 to immediate critical acclaim. "... her wide range of keyboard color and sense of mystery are quite simply mesmerizing." (Classics Today)

American Record Guide, July/August 2015
Slotchiver plays reverently and firmly rather than imaginatively. She also wrote the detailed and extensive English program notes. If you follow Busoni and like the first two albums, you'll certainly want this. If you're unfamiliar with Busoni, you may be better off starting with Volume II, the sonatinas. The sonics are fine.

Reviews

Outstanding Performance
Pianist Jeni Slotchiver may well prove to be this composer's best exponent and intercessor between him and the listener. Her playing is first and foremost at the service of the music, and always leads the narrative to its inevitable conclusion. Some of the titans of the piano like Ogdon, Brendel and Hamelin have already put their stamp on this music, but there is nothing to prevent Jeni Slotchiver from imprinting her own art, technical skill and persona on it. If you've passed on this composer before from fear of getting lost, let this Busoni specialist be your dedicated guide.
